Cheltenham Town 1 - 2 Shrewsbury TownLeague 2 Tuesday 29th September
I missed Shrewsbury's second goal. Well I looked up from the text message I was composing and saw a ball roll past a crowd of gob-smacked players into the net at the C & G end. I think the text read " 1-1 Brown error - he's just cost us the match". I was then able to glance up and then add that the inevitable had happened "1-2 its all over and we were doing quite well".
But that's just the bad news. So easy to be a misery. Barry Hayles' goal was a cracker - turned and fired in - fantastic. Pook rattled the woodwork - to make it evens with the Shrews who did the same before the break.
Cheltenham did ok. Josh Low maintained the favourable impression that being an attacking right-back is the new him. Michael Pook's return has made a difference to the mid-field. David Bird seemed in less of a sulk. Generally I thought they played better than they have so far this season in front of the home crowd. Even bringing on Alsop when they were throwing sinks, furniture and fire-irons at the Shrews was a good move.
The only person who should have been beating themselves up was Scott Brown. But as keepers are an odd breed who lead an odd life its in no ones interests. He probably considered slashing his wrists. One or two leaving the ground on this pleasant, almost balmy late September night seemed ready to lob him a Gillette. But we want the boy put back together again for Saturday and the arrival of Sven and the season's glamour fixture - Notts County - will he bring Ulrika?
